تقرير المرحلة الجديدة للحملة – انكليزي

Since the beginning of 2015, a group of Syrian detention centers’ survivors, launched the “International Campaign to Save Detainees in Syria”, this campaign is an advocacy campaign that aims to inform the world about the issue of detainees in Syrian prisons of all the conflicting parties in Syria, and especially of the Syrian regime. In addition to exposing the daily and continues violations of human rights that are committed against detainees, such as torture and systematic killing. The campaign includes distribution of fliers, presentation of videos and photos that illustrates the situation of women and children detainees, as well as delivering voices to the Security Council and international legal organizations to take a decision to protect detainees in Syria.
Our campaign currently focuses on victims of torture component in the detainees file, the trauma of many detainees’ families as a result of this, and the how the regime handled this event by revealing the victims’ names and distributing them to civil registries of the Syrian provinces, where many families learned about the death of their sons and daughters from the civil registry, and were forced to extract a death statement, without demanding the bodies of the victims, or knowing where they were buried. The regime claims that the causes of death were whether heart attacks or respiratory diseases such as asthma… etc. which is considered falsification of facts and ensures the continued systematic murder of the detainees in detention. The number of victims killed under torture in Assad’s detention centers reached 13200 people, including 163 children and 43 women since the beginning of the revolution 2011.
This activity aims at introducing the issue of these victims in addition to supporting and guiding the victims’ families to what they should do after knowing the death of their son/daughter in detention, like documenting, and communicating with organizations that are interested in the detainees’ issue.
The campaign also, in its current activity, focuses on victims of enforced disappearance, which is one of the most complicated issues in the Syrian case, as is the issue of the torture victims.
Most arrests in Syria are considered forced disappearance, because of the conditions and facts surrounding the arrest, such as the lack of knowledge of the place of detention or the responsible body or branch, and not allowing the detainees to hire a lawyer to defend them, whether during the investigation in the security branch, or after the transfer to the first and second military field court, and transfer to Saidnaya military prison.
The number of enforced disappearance victims in Syria since 2011 exceeded 96000 people.
In our campaign, we demand the international community and legal organizations to take immediate and urgent procedures to reveal the fate of hundred of thousands detainees and enforced disappearance victims, and to put pressure on Assad regime to hand over the lists of living detainees that are now in its detention centers, as well as to hand over lists of torture victims who died in its detention centers, to indicate where the bodies were buried in the mass graves that the regime created for this purpose in different parts of the capital Damascus.
We also demand from people around the world, and civil society legal and humanitarian organizations to advocate for the Syrian revolution detainees issue, to form a global public opinion that can pressure to achieve a positive progress in this issue, and neutralize it from the political negotiations, and to maintain the humanitarian character
